  1. I enjoyed the video Palomafuente. At the beginning the music was interesting when Alec focused on filming the birds. It felt like Italy but it was birds walking everywhere. Also I enjoyed the shots of water. The one shot looked like marbles falling down. Watching Alec’s videos gave a whole different perspective of nature. Than before when taking a glance and not thinking about how artistic nature can be.

  2. The Souvenirs from Earth channel is extraordinary. To have one channel showcase works of video art 24 hours a day is an excellent idea. I saw a prime example of his blurring technique in Mauenheim. It definitely changes what the viewer is focusing on and in return, their feelings towards the video. Alec Crichton definitely has his own style of showing nature. He shows us what we would normally find to be ordinary or something we see day to day and make it fascinating.

  3. By far, my favorite video of his was "Mauenheim" (starring the "playful insect." What stuck with me the most about this particular video was Crichton's exploration of focus, both from a technical and artistic standpoint. By altering the focus, it forces the viewer to adopt a new perspective instantaneously. Another work that struck me was "Autumnir." His jarring use of hyper-fast changes to other subjects was unnerving, especially given the tranquility of the still video. I also liked that he again plays with focus, especially at 00:54, when a couple walks into the shot. While still focusing on a plant in the foreground, the camera follows the out-of-focus couple, clearly defining them as temporary subjects, despite being unfocused.
Crichton's exploratory use of focus has definitely left me inspired and wanting to experiment myself.
