Yang Fudong was born in 1971 in Beijing and now lives and works in Shanghai. Most of his films are in black and white. Yang developed an interest in photography and film while going to school for painting. One of his most famous recent works is titled "Seven Intellectuals in a Bamboo Forest". His works are often filled with psychological questions. Yang prefers to shoot in film, as opposed to digital video, as he believes that film retains a strong sense of the artist’s touch, which digital videos often lack.

I loved the video "First Spring." I think what made it such a hit for me was seeing the juxtaposition of modern day fashion and architecture with the same, but from feudal Japan. The whole video had a very Magritte feel to it; a sort of lighthearted surrealism that I found to be very charming.
ReplyDeleteI really love black and white film, and I think it's great that he prefers to work in film instead of digitally. I am curious at how one edits film as opposed to digital content, though. I really enjoyed the video you posted.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Forever even through it made me dizzy. It gave a different perspective viewing the world rightside up and upside down. While watching it I felt like I was on a ride that never ended.
